Question of The Gender Wage Gap: Trends Across The World Özgür Önday

Question of The Gender Wage Gap: Trends Across The World

Author (s)

Özgür Önday

Abstract

The gender pay gap is about gender representation in roles that pay differently, and is about gender portrayal in jobs that pay in an unexpected way, and is not quite the same as equivalent compensation concerns. The gender pay gap is determined by taking the normal compensation for all females in an association, paying little mind to job or duties, and contrasting that with the normal pay for all guys in a similar association, paying little heed to job or obligations. The distinction in these two normal sums is the ” gender pay gap.” Paying ladies not as much as men for a similar activity, absolutely by virtue of their gender, is unlawful and is banned by correspondence enactment. It alludes to the gap between what is earned on normal by ladies and men dependent on normal gross hourly income of every single paid representative – not simply people doing likewise work, or with a similar encounter or working example. It doesn’t demonstrate or distinguish separation or inclination or even a nonattendance of equivalent compensation for equivalent worth work. The next section reviews the theoretical and empirical literature analyzing gender wage differences. Section III describes the trends in gender wage gaps across countries and regions in this date. The fourth section presents how to close gender pay gap. The final section concludes with some thoughts on policy implications.

Key words: Gender Wage Gap, Equal Pay, Value of Work, Gender Pay Gap, Legislations, Government Authorities.

Abstract

This project discusses and Implements in detail the purpose, designing and functioning of a automatic vehicle tracking and traffic accident monitoring system in public transport. The number of vehicles on the road globally is expected to increase rapidly. Therefore, the development of vehicle tracking system using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) modem is undertaken with the aim of enabling to minimize traffic accident and users to locate their vehicles and to keep the users from driving over speed with ease and in a convenient manner. The system will provide to the administrator with the capability to track vehicle remotely through the mobile network and at what speed the vehicle is running. Specifically, implementation of this project more focus on the server based vehicle tracking in public transport and company vehicles in case of traffic accident prevention. The system will generate the location of the vehicle and at what speed the vehicle is moving. The system will utilize GPS to obtain a vehicle’s coordinate and the time and transmit it using GSM modem to the central server through the mobile network by SMS. The main hardware components of the system are Robomart GPS receiver module, Robomart GSM module and AVR Atmega16 microcontroller. The developed vehicle tracking system demonstrates the feasibility of near real-time tracking of vehicles and improved customizability, global operability and costly when compared to existing solutions.

Life Imprisonment under International Criminal Law: A Human Rights Approach Hossain Mohammad Younus Sirazi

Life Imprisonment under International Criminal Law: A Human Rights Approach

Author (s)

Hossain Mohammad Younus Sirazi

Abstract

Unsurprisingly, life imprisonment is a maximum penalty under international criminal law, where the position of death penalty throughout the world tends to be mostly abolished owing to the stance of human rights jurisprudence. Likewise, through the lenses of a human rights approach, if life imprisonment is critically looked, it raises serious concern though the imposition of such sentence is not directly prohibited. This is because the inherent spirit of international human rights norms, this paper argues, that reveals the incompatibility of such sentence with human dignity, right not to be subjected to cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment as well as right to rehabilitation and hope for release of the offenders, even the most heinous criminals, and also with the principle of proportionality as well as legal certainty. This paper endeavors to revisit the implications of such a human rights approach in the infliction of life imprisonment by rendering a realistic release mechanism for lifers by international criminal tribunals. This paper also tries to argue that retribution and deterrence in sentencing have been unduly emphasized proffering no clear justifications for inflicting such sentence. Therefore, this paper stresses to be adopted a more focused and cautious human rights approach to life imprisonment under international criminal law because if such approach would be emphatically embraced, it would have also served rehabilitative purpose of sentencing jurisprudence and rendered a dynamic and early release mechanism for lifers.

Key words: Life imprisonment, Sentencing jurisprudence, Human rights approach, International criminal courts and tribunals, A dynamic and early release mechanism.

Abstract

The advents of the internet and e-commerce have transformed the pattern of purchase of goods and services. Online customers find online shopping very convenient, flexible, time saving, offering a wide variety of selection, cheaper products and provide the possibility to make private purchases easier. Despite the numerous benefits of online purchasing platforms, the adoption rate is low in Uganda. This study aimed at modeling a framework on determinants of customers’ intentions to purchase online in the case of Kampala Uganda. The philosophical underpins were both positivism epistemology and objectivism ontology. Data was sourced using structured questions from a sample of ninety-seven (97) online customers’ in Kampala. The analysis was concluded using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and the findings revealed that; Facilitating Conditions (FC), Service Quality (SQ) and Customers’ Attitudes (A) have positive significant impacts on online purchase intention whereas, there was insignificant statistical evidence to suggest that System Quality (SQ) influences the intention to purchase online. This study therefore recommends managers of online businesses to consider Service Quality (SeQ), Facilitating Conditions (FC) and Customers Attitudes (A) as critical determinants to improve online sales. Indicators such as: timely deliveries, product conformability and prompt feedback are drivers to online purchase intentions. This study provides emerging views essential in managing relationships between businesses and customers with the intention to model successful e-business strategies. This research thus provides a useful insight to parties including e-business practitioners, government and customers on the role of e-commerce adoption in Uganda.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the comprehensive comparison about the financial performance of conventional and non conventional banks of Bangladesh. The study shows that in spite of a few exceptions in general conventional overall performance was better than the non conventional banks. I have chosen five Islamic banks and five Conventional Banks & analyze different data to find out the effect of CAMEL Factors on Return on Equity. Here I have used different dependent variables to analyze the impact of each variable on Return on Equity. The variables are Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Management Quality, Earnings & Liquidity The regression model indicates that Capital adequacy, Asset Quality, have significant negative impact on Return on Equity for conventional bank. This model also indicates Management Quality & Earnings Quality and Liquidity are positively related to Return on Equity and this variable has also significant impact on Return on Equity. I have used this same model for non conventional banks and found that Capital adequacy, Asset Quality and Earnings and Liquidity have negative insignificant impact on Return on Equity & only Management Quality has negative insignificant impact on return on asset. Then In my study I have used descriptive statistics to compare between these two banking system in terms of CAMEL factors. I have found that conventional bank dominates non conventional bank in terms of Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Earnings, whereas non conventional bank dominates conventional banks in terms of Management Quality and Liquidity.

Key words: CAMEL, Conventional Banks, Non Conventional Banks, Performance Analysis.

Abstract

This study focuses mainly on the use of different types of assessment and feedback towards the study of English language at graduation level in Bangladesh. Assessment and feedback are an important part of effective learning. Assessment should also be incorporated in the teaching and learning process. The current tendency in the Bangladeshi education system, assessment and feedback are largely focused on pedagogic characteristics, ignoring those that are relevant to the curriculum. The quantitative method has been used to collect data and includes students’ perceptions, ideas, and behaviors. This research paper was developed with a questionnaire including teachers and students. From the data, the researcher finds that students face a lot of difficulty in getting the actual assessment and feedback. In most cases, students receive only verbal feedback from teachers. In addition, teachers are more interested in providing written feedback. This study also aims to provide suggestions for overcoming barriers to exam performance and feedback in teaching English language at the undergraduate level in Bangladesh.

Abstract

A growing body of literature is focused on analyzing the impact of leadership styles on various organizational behaviors. Although in knowledge management literature studies have shown a statistically significant impact of any leadership style on knowledge sharing but the literature on hiding is still scarce. This study is an attempt to bridge this gap in literature by focusing on ethical leadership and the impact it has on the knowledge sharing and knowledge hiding of the employees. Organizational citizenship behavior is included as mediator in the study as it is observed from past literature that employees like to emulate the behavior of their supervisor. The model of the research study also suggests for the moderation effects of procedural justice. Ethicality of the leader results in higher organizational citizenship behavior which in turn enhances the knowledge sharing and hinders the knowledge hiding behavior of the employees. It was also found that procedural justice moderates the relationship.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore and elaborate on Zambian work values, of which a mixture in traditional and western values has been the focal point of the daily life of Zambians. Questions on intrinsic work values and extrinsic work values were asked to them in interview style for them to shade more light to which category they thought they inclined to and their justification of such a way of being. After which they were administered a work value questionnaire, for more brief and confined answers. Both the questionnaires and the data from the interview responses were used to draw conclusions.
