Abstract

Medical text classification has a significant impact on disease diagnosis, medical research, and the automatic development of disease ontology, acquiring knowledge of clinical results recorded in the medical literature. Hence, medical text classification is challenging because it contains terminologies that describe medical concepts and terminologies. Furthermore, the medical data mostly does not follow natural language grammar; it has inadequate grammatical sentences. The techniques used for text classification give different results comparing to medical text classifications, as extracting text and training sets are different. One of the most significant text classification models in general and medical text classification specifically is CNN-based models. In this paper, many papers on medical text classification have been reviewed, and the details of each article, such as algorithms, or approaches used, databases, classification techniques, and outcomes obtained, are evaluated and outlined thoroughly. Besides, discussions were carried out on all the studied papers, which profoundly influenced medical documents classification.

Abstract

Quality of Service (QoS) is a significant concept in distributed systems. Therefore, several studies within QoS for distributed systems have been researched over the past years. It is very difficult to deliver an appropriate QoS level for frameworks running in different open resource environments, including the Internet. A distributed system’s QoS characteristics are affected by the QoS of the specific hosts involved, and the QoS of the networking subsystem linking these hosts. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art of distributed systems evolution in QoS architecture. In the context of distributed systems, the method adopted is to address QoS terms and a generalized QoS system for identifying and explaining QoS.

Recourses Utilization in a Distributed System: A Review

Author (s)

Zhala Jameel Hamad & Subhi R. M. Zeebaree

Abstract

Recourses in a distributed system can be accessed or remotely accessed across multiple nodes in the system. Nodes share resources including hardware, software, and data in distributed systems. A distributed system can always have a common purpose, such as addressing a significant computational issue. The set of independent processors is then interpreted by the user as a unit. And the distributed system’s function is to organize the use of shared resources or to provide users with communication services. Therefore, this paper focuses on resource utilization in different techniques and different domains that motivate and support a distributed system. Many previous works related to this subject have been addressed, explained in detail. The results showed that resources play a vital role in facilitating organizational processes, reduce work runtimes, and achieve a performance improvement; it was also beneficial for helping users’ process massive data. The findings also explored that resource utilization aspects and factor’s impact are varied from the distributed system.

Abstract

HADOOP is an open-source virtualization technology that allows the distributed processing of large data sets across standardized server clusters. With two modules, HADOOP Distributed File System (HDFS) and MapReduce framework, it is designed to scale single servers to thousands of computers, providing local computation and storage. Over a decade after HADOOP emerged on the forefront as an open system for Big Data analysis. Its growth has prompted several improvisations for particular data processing needs, based on the type of processing conditions at various periods of computation. This paper, through reviewing several kinds of research provides the basic HADOOP system structure and the description of the MapReduce, HDFS Efficiency. Explaining how the HADOOP framework can overcome the “5Vs” challenges in Big Data. However, in addition to the many benefits of the HADOOP system, like fault tolerance, reliability, high availability, scalable, decreases execution time, reduces latency, improve the security issues, improving the quality of data analysis, better scheduling model, and cost-efficiently. On the other hand, there were some barriers and challenges regarding adjusting data regularly, security issues, and load balancing. Finally, the certainly benefit and challenges of the HADOOP system have been represented paving the way for the future research to find solutions to these challenges.

Abstract

Distributed cloud computing innovation is the best approach to provide everything to customers as services through a web association. Utilizing this innovation, the customers would have the option to lease the necessary services through internet browsers. Cloud computing is aimed mainly at delivering customer services on demand. Cloud computing is a general concept that provides a wide range of infrastructure-based services, through platform as a production tool, via software as a service providing customers with the licenses of an application as an on-demand service. Various service models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, and many more are used in Cloud Computing. The features of these service models that distinguish cloud computing from other areas of study are proposed to clarify the essential aspect of Cloud Computing. These service models are compared from different viewpoints so that they can better identify their origins. In this article, three key service models are compared and discussed, i.e., software as a service, platform as a service, Infrastructure as a service, and previous studies on these services demonstrated and compared based on methods, objects, and significant results.

Abstract

No doubt financial performance analysis is a subjective & fundamental tool to discover the proficiency of the management in various parts of an organization. Evaluation of financial performance through analyzing the financial statement using financial ratios is usually related to how well an organization is using its revenue, expenses, assets as well as equity and liabilities which shows the picture of the financial position of that organization. Solvency (liquidity), profitability, turnover and return on assets (ROA) and return on equity (ROE) have been analyzed to interpret & measure the efficiency of management, financial performance and position of Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (SPL). The nature of the study is empirical based on secondary data that have been collected from annual reports of SPL (2012-2019). Pharmaceutical is a significant aide of industrialization in the nation. Having a significant contribution (1.83%) of pharmaceutical industry to our GDP with a growth rate (15%) sound financial performance of pharmaceutical industry may be useful for getting ready financial and monetary policy of the nation. From the finding of the study, it is revealed that profitability, inventory & accounts receivable turnover, assets turnover, financial leverage, ROA & ROE are doing well but liquidity position is not so much satisfactory and assets turnover ratio requires more concentration on it cause of a mixed trend. From overall findings, it is supposed that the management of SPL has been able to keep stability in running the business affairs and bring upward trend in generating earnings. The study draws the attention of the proper authority through some recommendations like keeping up a compelling coordination among different departments particularly in the finance, sales and PPIC department for further improvement of SPL.

Abstract

The low back pain is common problem shown in lumbar disc herniation. It produces pain in the lower back or leg especially in adult person. The disc loses its own structure and herniates outside due to disc compression. The purpose of this study was to find out the Effectiveness of intermittent mechanical traction among the patients with lumbar disc herniation.  It was an experimental study design with 30 participants were included with selected Lumbar disc herniation and study was conducted in Gonoshasthaya samaj vittik medical college hospital, OPD of physiotherapy, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Non-randomize sampling technique & semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect the data. Subjects were divided into equal 2 groups. (Group-A. applied intermittent mechanical traction) and (Group-B. Applied Manual traction) The mean age of the respondents was (14 ± 8.485) and (30-49) year’s age group felt more pain and most of the respondents (83%) were male and weight were 66-70 kg. Day labour worker groups were 50% and worked daily average 5-8 hours and more of the respondent 67% carried over weight objects around 30 kg. most of the respondent 67% was no history of trauma and 43% of the respondent felt moderate types of pain and 44% of the respondents feels radiating nature of pain. More of the respondent 40% felt pain least 6 months Most of the respondent 67% felt pain during work and 83% visited doctor and 63% taken self-treatment before doctor visit. The statistical analysis of paired  t test  with14 degrees of freedom and 5% as level of significant. The pre and post test value  value for VAS scale showed in intermitten mechanical traction group   “t’’ value were 16.60   and  manual traction group “t’’ value were 3.27 and  tabulated t value were 2.145. The mean ± SD of pre and posttest value of Group A were 7.73±1.38 & 1.35±0.57 and Group B were 7.87±1.40 & 5.45 ± 2.50. Analysis of data showed that within-group comparison both groups showed significant improvement for all the parameters, whereas between-group comparison revealed higher improvement in Group A compared to the Group B. In this study the treatment of patients with signs of lumbar disc herniation the intermittent mechanical traction of lumbar spine seem more useful for the reduction of pain and improve functional activity.

Abstract

This paper investigates empirically digitalization as a vehicle for innovation that brings about growth and effectiveness to deposit money banks in Nigeria. The data utilized for the study were sourced from Statistical Bulletin of Central Bank of Nigeria spanning from the period of 2010-2018. A documentary and econometrics technique were used for the study. Various analysis/test were conducted ranging from graphical regression analysis, test of stationarity, long-run relationship test, granger causality test to residual diagnostic tests. From the interpretation of empirical result of the study, it was discovered that digitalization has negative and significant influence on the growth and effectiveness of deposit money banks in Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended, among others, that Education and sensitization of customers on how to use the various mobile apps and other applications for transactions should be carried out and intensified by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in other to reduce congestion in banking halls. DMBs and CBN should reduce transaction cost on automated teller machine (ATM), point-of-sale (POS) and mobile transfers, etc. in other to retain existing customers and encourage prospective ones without jeopardizing profitability, as more customers would be attracted to the bank because of digitalization innovation.

Abstract

This paper bothers on analytical review on how desertification caused by climate change propels herders-farmers clashes in Nigeria, as it continues to spread further southwards. The data for the study were obtained from the PRS International Country Risk Guide, Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and Statistical Bulletin of the Central Bank of Nigeria, spanning from the year 2000-2019. A documentary and econometrics technique were employed, where in, graphical regression analysis, unit root test, bound test, Autoregressive-Distributed Lag short and long run test were conducted. Internal conflict index provided by PRS as index of herdsmen/farmers clashes was used as dependent variable, while desertification was captured in the model using primary tree loss as the felling of trees signifies such, average temperature was captured in the model as a variable that could explain herdsmen/farmers conflicts as a harsh temperature might reduce green vegetation, exacerbating the conflicts and rainfall which is seen to aid green vegetation were captured as independent variables. From the result of the study, no evidence of significant relationship exists between internal conflicts and desertification in Nigeria. In line with this, the study concludes that internal conflicts in Nigeria is not attributable to climate change. In view of this, the study recommends that; Government should set up ranches in the Northern part of Nigeria and feeds provided using the hydroponic farming system. This recommendation is predicated on the cultural differences between the Southern and Northern part of Nigeria so as to avoid occurrence of violent clashes.

Abstract

This paper proposes to make a contribution to the existing literature through examining the impacts of electricity consumption and financial development on urbanization in Bangladesh during 1974-2014 by employing modern econometric techniques. We conduct dynamic nexus among financial development, electricity consumption, and urbanization by utilizing ARDL technique. The ARDL technique is employed to find dynamics among variables and to check the long run connection. This analysis performed the unit root problem through the ADF test where variables are I(0). Long-term associations are found by checking the bound test. Both electricity consumption and financial development are significant to affect urbanization. The long-run elasticities are higher impacts on urbanization than the short-run elasticities. Also, various diagnostic tests are made such as serial correlation, heteroscedasticity, normality. To evaluate the parameter stability, we execute the CUSUM test and CUSUM square. The results confirmed that there is no structural break in the economy. The paper provides some policy recommendations based on the results.

Framing of Climate Change Stories Covered by The Kenyan Daily Nation and The People Daily Newspapers

Abstract

Data collected through qualitative content analysis method and in-depth interviews of sources of information and journalists from two daily newspapers in Kenya, the Daily Nation and the People Daily on how they framed climate change stories during part of 2012, the year when the Kyoto Protocol was ending, found that although the Kenyan media cover climate change, these articles are placed anywhere but front page, rarely took leadership positions on any given page and scarcely on top left quadrant. In effect the media coverage on climate change may not have prominently displayed climate change articles as to solicit public discourses, failed to support the media advocacy objective of the climate change activists and perhaps contributed to the failure of government not to implement the provision of such key international instruments as the Kyoto Protocol.  The study recommended that gate keepers be part of the media advocacy for the Public Relations practitioners.

Limit Pricing through Price Discrimination: A Theoretical study among Telocommunication Companies in East Africa Hillary Ekisa Nambanga

Limit Pricing through Price Discrimination: A Theoretical study among Telocommunication Companies in East Africa

Abstract

Limit pricing, which Competition Authorities view as anti-competitive and illegal, is an interesting issue in industrial organization. This is a case where firms with market power charge a price that is lower than their operational cost in order to prevent the entry of new potential competitors or drive out their smaller competitors out of business. This research paper examines limit pricing theoretically among telecommunications companies in the East African Community. The Community has experienced a consistent drop in mobile network service prices since the year 2000 with the smaller mobile network operators blaming their dominant counterparts for initiating these price cuts. These dominant firms are former monopolists who price discriminate between their two tariffs, the pre-liberalization (former monopoly) and post-liberalization (competitive), with a majority of their mobile subscribers still registered under their expensive pre-liberalization tariffs that have high switching costs compared to the competitive tariffs. The paper analyses limit pricing within an oligopoly framework involving a price discriminating dominant incumbent, a fringe (smaller) competitor and a potential entrant in a sequential three-stage game of price competition under complete information. The theoretical results show that the dominant incumbent can profitably use its pre-liberalization tariff price to deter market entry and force its smaller competitors out of business. These results have public policy implications for the East African Competition Authority and other policy makers. These should consider regulating the pre-liberalization tariffs among dominant firms thereby reducing their influence on pricing in order to enhance fair competition among firms in the market.

Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between economic growth and women’s participation in Southern African Development Community (SADC). Using panel data from 2000 to 2018 in 16 SADC countries, the paper finds that the participation of women in labor market has a significant impact on economic growth over time. That means that a one percent change in the female labor force participation leads to six percent increase in economic growth. The results also show that the increasing participation of women in the labor market and the growing number of female employers have a significant and increasing impact on SADC economic growth in the long run. Thus a one percent change in female employment marks 0.03 percent increase in economic growth over time. This paper contributes to SADC women’s empowerment policies. In order to increase women’s participation in labor market and economic growth, SADC must focus on policies that allow women to access resources and become business owners.

Abstract

Family-owned businesses (FOBs) are seen as a major contributor to economic growth and development in the global economy. It has nothing to do with the important role they continue to play in job creation, the growth of business enterprises in communities, and the growth of gross domestic product (GDP). Sadly, in addition to their national development efforts, only a small percentage of these family-owned businesses survive the second and third generations. This astonishing practice worries many scholars who claim that these failures are embedded in poor asset systems, incompetence of the management team, poor transformation plans, etc. CEOs and the survival of these family-owned businesses was limited. This multidisciplinary study examined the personality traits of CEOs in Machiavellianism in the southern region of Nigeria and the survival of family-owned businesses. This study is tied to the Sustainable Family Business Theory (SFBT). The study consisted of 628 people, with 289 participants from hotels in the southern region of Nigeria. A structural model used for data analysis, CEO Machiavellianism points out that personality traits are negatively related to the survival of family-owned businesses.

Abstract

To investigate the factors affecting educated customers’ attitude towards online shopping in the Rangpur division of Bangladesh is the main focus of this study. The study has considered 300 respondents as the sample size (n= 300) who are living in the Rangpur division and their responses have been collected through a structured questionnaire using a non-probability convenience sampling technique. To measure the impact of various influential factors on educated customer online shopping attitude, a multiple regression analysis has been conducted through SPSS software version 20. The result shows that in terms of demographic analysis, respondents like female service-holder aging 26-30 years having graduation are mostly involved with online shopping in the Rangpur division. The study also shows that all four independent factors like convenience, website design, perceived enjoyment, online shopping experience with P < 0.05 considered in this study have a significant positive impact on educated customer attitude towards online shopping. For the development of online shopping, the E-business platform should be well equipped with attractive website features, quality products with fair price and convenience, and security and fun which result in customer belief, satisfaction, and loyalty.
